Bing Market Share Increases 7% in June

Jul 08, 2010 Comments Off by Frederic Lardinois

According to the latest data from Experian Hitwise, Microsoft Bing was the big winner in the online search market last month. While the number of searches on Google went down slightly, Bing grew by about 7% and is now inching close to capturing 10% of the search market. Currently, Bing is at 9.85%.

It’s hard to say why Bing gained so much in the last month, but the release of Bing’s entertainment search feature, as well as Microsoft’s continuing marketing efforts for Bing surely helped. In addition, the summer travel season is surely helping Bing, which focuses strongly on this niche. According to Hitwise, Bing saw triple-digit growth (162%) in the travel niche since June 2009.
